The National Immigrant Justice Center is the only program in the country that provides both comprehensive legal immigration services as well as reform-driven advocacy and litigation through the following projects:
- The Jeanne and Joseph Sullivan Project for Protection of Asylum Seekers provides pro bono representation to asylum seekers fleeing persecution in their homelands and advocates for the protection of the human rights of asylum seekers;
- NAPSO (LGBT Protection Project) ensures protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and HIV-positive individuals who are victims of persecution in their home countries;
- The Immigrant Children’s Project provides specialized legal services to and advocates for immigrant children, many of whom are fleeing human rights abuses such as forced recruitment as soldiers, sexual exploitation, child labor, and abuse;
- The Detained Immigrant Protection Project provides legal orientation and representation to detained immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. The Project’s “Missing In Our Midst Campaign” protects the legal and human rights of this population through monitoring, advocacy, litigation, and public education;
- The Counter-Trafficking Project assists human trafficking victims in applying for available legal remedies and raises community awareness of human trafficking;
- Domestic Violence Survivors Protection Project provides legal services for individuals seeking protection from gender-based persecution both in the United States and in their home countries;
- The Immigrant Legal Defense Project offers legal services to immigrants applying for family visa petitions, legal permanent residency, Temporary Protected Status, relief under the Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act, and U.S. citizenship; and
- Advocacy, Litigation, and Public Education efforts underscore each of the (National) Immigrant Justice Center’s project areas in order to advance broad-based human rights protections for the individuals and families assisted through direct service work.
